In accordance with recent research in computer workstation ergonomics, the PowerBoard™ offers you a truly viable and healthful alternative to the expensive workstation setup and modification.
"The PowerBoard provided for the best overall positioning while computer keyboarding" from an independent study performed at University of North Dakota Department of Physical Therapy, 1999.
- Dr. Alan Hedge at Cornell University Human Factors and Ergonomics Group, suggests the keyboard be used at a lower height, about one-inch above the knee and at a negative tilt of approximately 12 degrees. This angling of the keys improves posture and reduces the chances of developing repetitive stress injuries.
The PowerBoard allows this set-up to be done easily with no modification of the current workstation.
- James Sheedy, optometry professor at the University of California, Berkeley, states that positioning the monitor about 26 inches from the eyes is optimal, making focusing easier than at closer distances. Most workstations have a fixed position keyboard platform and the surface is not deep enough to position the monitor far enough back. The user will be unable to achieve the optimal distance from the monitor. This can lead to eyestrain and headaches. 10 million workers visit optometrists each year because of computer related vision problems.
The PowerBoard is positioned on your lap so you can easily move to where the monitor is at the right distance from your eyes.
- The PowerBoard is positioned on the lap, thereby keeping your feet on the floor where they can support the upper body, arms and hands. The weight of the board increases the proprioception (nerve impulses that tell the brain where the body parts are positioned) of the lower extremities. This is important since many people tuck their legs under the chair, which takes away the support and can contribute to back and neck pain.
